For planning, leave the project flat overnight and use the witness swatch as the release test. “Overnight” is a scheduling allowance, not a measured dry-time claim. A thick puddle can remain damp after a thin brushstroke has stopped transferring.

Even factory-made artist acrylic moves sharply with the surface beneath it. What pigment-to-binder ratio makes artist paint?

There is no universal pigment-to-binder ratio for paint. Pigments absorb liquid differently, and a ratio that binds one powder can leave another chalky or drown it in medium. Can homemade paint be used on walls?

The manufacturer tells babies and people with asthma or allergies to minimize exposure even at that low level.

The same sheet specifies an antimicrobial agent that protects the paint film from mold and mildew, 48% solids by weight with a 2-point tolerance, surface preparation and adequate ventilation. It also says to keep the coating out of children’s reach and never take it internally. Those controls make wall paint less charming than a pantry recipe and far easier to verify.

For a child-made mural, tape a roll of kraft paper to the wall and paint the paper. The flour mixture keeps its temporary job; the finished sheet can come down without turning the room into an adhesion experiment.

Which safety checks matter before children make paint?

“Taste-safe” should not be attached to uncooked flour paint. An AP seal does not turn paint into face paint, food or a handprint cosmetic. It certifies an art material for its intended use. The clean decision is wonderfully narrow: flour paint for supervised paper play, AP-certified children’s paint when a tested product is needed, artist materials for artists, and architectural coating for the wall.
